Yoga for One Earth, One Health: Sri Sri University Hosts Yoga Mahotsav 2026 as a Milestone in the Countdown to International Day of Yoga

 

In a remarkable celebration of wellness, sustainability and collective consciousness, Sri Sri University (SSU), Cuttack, Odisha in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India successfully organized the 47th Day Countdown Program - Yoga Mahotsav 2026 on 5 May 2026. The event marked an important milestone in the 100 day countdown to the International Day of Yoga 2026 bringing together more than 500 participants from diverse backgrounds under the inspiring theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The grand gathering served as a powerful reminder of the s ability of yoga to unite people across professions, communities and generations while promoting a healthier lifestyle and a more sustainable future for the planet. The event reflected the growing global recognition of yoga as a transformative practice that nurtures physical health, mental well-being, social harmony and environmental responsibility.

Celebrating a Global Movement

Since its inception in 2015, the International Day of Yoga has evolved into a worldwide movement that transcends geographical, cultural and social boundaries. Recognized by the United Nations, the annual observance highlights the immense benefits of yoga and encourages individuals across the globe to adopt healthier and more balanced lifestyles. As preparations begin for International Day of Yoga 2026, Yoga Mahotsav 2026 represents a significant step in building momentum toward the global celebration. The event commenced with an inspiring inaugural address by Swami Satyachaitanya Ji, Director Operations, Sri Sri University, who eloquently highlighted the relevance of yoga in the fast-paced and often stressful world of today. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that yoga is far more than a physical exercise. It is a comprehensive system that harmonizes the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Following the inaugural address participants enthusiastically took part in a 40-minute yoga session designed to promote physical vitality, mental clarity, and emotional balance. The session was conducted under the expert guidance of Mr. Saurav Baweja, Administrative Officer and Dr. Praag Bharadwaj, Assistant Professor of Yoga, whose expertise ensured that participants of varying levels of experience could comfortably engage in the practice. The carefully curated session included a series of yogic postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques that demonstrated the accessibility and inclusiveness of yoga. Participants were guided through movements aimed at improving flexibility, strength, posture and concentration while simultaneously reducing stress and promoting inner calm. The atmosphere was one of collective energy and enthusiasm as hundreds of individuals practiced together, creating a powerful sense of unity and shared purpose. The event brought together approximately 300 external participants representing prestigious organizations such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Their enthusiastic participation highlighted the increasing recognition of yoga as an essential tool for maintaining physical fitness, mental resilience, and emotional well-being among personnel serving in demanding and high-pressure environments.

In addition, around 200 internal participants from the Sri Sri University community including students, faculty members and staff actively took part in the celebration. The vibrant participation reflected the commitment of SSU to fostering holistic education that integrates academic excellence with personal growth and well-being. The presence of such a diverse audience demonstrated universal appeal of yoga and its ability to unite people across professions, age groups and social backgrounds.
