Celebrating a Global Movement
Since its
inception in 2015, the International Day of Yoga has evolved into a worldwide
movement that transcends geographical, cultural and social boundaries.
Recognized by the United Nations, the annual observance highlights the immense
benefits of yoga and encourages individuals across the globe to adopt healthier
and more balanced lifestyles. As preparations begin for International Day of
Yoga 2026, Yoga Mahotsav 2026 represents a significant step in building
momentum toward the global celebration. The event at Sri Sri University
embodied the spirit of this movement by bringing together participants from
various sectors, including students, educators, security personnel, and
wellness practitioners.
The
chosen theme for IDY 2026, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” resonates deeply
with contemporary global challenges. It emphasizes the interconnectedness
between human health and the health of the planet, reminding us that
sustainable living and personal well-being are inseparable. Through yoga,
individuals can cultivate awareness, balance and responsibility towards both
themselves and the environment.
A Vision Rooted in Holistic Well-Being
The event
commenced with an inspiring inaugural address by Swami Satyachaitanya Ji,
Director Operations, Sri Sri University, who eloquently highlighted the
relevance of yoga in the fast-paced and often stressful world of today. Addressing
the gathering, he emphasized that yoga is far more than a physical exercise. It
is a comprehensive system that harmonizes the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
He explained how the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” encourages humanity
to recognize the profound relationship between individual wellness and
ecological sustainability.
He
further underscored the importance of integrating yogic values into daily life,
stating that practices such as mindfulness, self-discipline, compassion, and
conscious living can contribute significantly to addressing many of the social
and environmental challenges faced by modern society. His address set an
uplifting tone for the event and inspired participants to view yoga as a
pathway toward creating a healthier and more harmonious world.
Yoga and the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals
A key
focus of Yoga Mahotsav 2026 was highlighting the role of yoga in supporting the
achievement of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yoga
promotes preventive healthcare and mental well-being, directly contributing to Good
Health and Well-being (SDG 3). By encouraging mindfulness, discipline and lifelong
learning, yoga also supports Quality Education (SDG 4). Furthermore, yoga
creates inclusive spaces where individuals from all backgrounds can participate
equally, reinforcing Gender Equality (SDG 5) and fostering social cohesion.
The event
also emphasized the connection of yoga to environmental stewardship and
sustainable lifestyles, aligning with Climate Action (SDG 13) and several other
sustainability-focused goals. Through conscious consumption, balanced living and
increased awareness of the natural world, yoga encourages individuals to make
choices that benefit both people and the planet. The discussions and messages
shared throughout the program reinforced the idea that yoga is not only a
personal wellness practice but also a catalyst for social transformation and
sustainable development.
An Energizing Yoga Session for All
Following
the inaugural address participants enthusiastically took part in a 40-minute
yoga session designed to promote physical vitality, mental clarity, and
emotional balance. The session was conducted under the expert guidance of Mr.

both an introduction to yoga and a reminder of its profound benefits for
everyday life.

session led by Gurudev. Following the yoga practice, participants were invited
to experience a period of deep relaxation and introspection. The meditation
session encouraged individuals to turn inward, quiet the mind and cultivate a sense
of peace and awareness. Amid the demands and distractions of modern life, this
collective moment of stillness offered participants an opportunity to reconnect
with themselves and experience the transformative power of mindfulness. The
serene environment created during the meditation reflected the essence of yoga
as a practice that extends beyond physical movement into mental and spiritual
well-being. Participants reported feeling refreshed, centered and inspired by
the experience.
