From Panchatantra to TEDx: Dr. Bharat Dash Takes India’s Ancient Wisdom to the Global Stage

In an age dominated by PowerPoint presentations, artificial intelligence, and digital communication, the timeless art of storytelling continues to hold extraordinary power. Proving exactly this on a prestigious global platform, Dr. Bharat Dash, the esteemed Faculty and Head of Faculty of Eastern Knowledge Systems (FEKS) at Sri Sri University, recently delivered an inspiring TEDx Talk at HR College, Mumbai. His thought-provoking talk, titled “Before PowerPoint, There Was Panchatantra,” captivated audiences by beautifully connecting ancient Indian wisdom traditions with modern communication, leadership, and education practices. With this remarkable achievement, Dr. Bharat Dash has officially joined the distinguished league of TEDx Speakers, bringing immense pride not only to Sri Sri University but also to the broader academic and intellectual community dedicated to preserving and promoting India’s knowledge systems.

Reviving Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times

For centuries, Indian civilization has relied on stories as a medium for teaching ethics, leadership, strategy, and human values. Long before modern management theories emerged, classics like the Panchatantra offered profound lessons on decision-making, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, teamwork, and governance through engaging narratives. In his TEDx Talk, Dr. Dash highlighted how storytelling traditions such as the Panchatantra were essentially India’s original communication and leadership tools—far more impactful than slides and presentations. He explained that stories have the unique ability to connect emotionally, simplify complexity, and leave lasting impressions on the human mind. Blending scholarly insight with relatable examples, Dr. Dash demonstrated how ancient Indian narratives remain deeply relevant in today’s corporate, educational, and social ecosystems. His talk reflected the very essence of Eastern Knowledge Systems—where knowledge is not merely transferred but experienced, internalized, and transformed into wisdom.

A Scholar Bridging Tradition and Innovation

Dr. Bharat Dash’s journey is itself an inspiring example of multidisciplinary excellence. An IT engineer by qualification, he holds a PhD focused on Nitishastra and Panchatantra, along with master’s degrees in Marketing Management and Economics. He also possesses a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Design and is a UGC NET qualified academician. Before entering academia, Dr. Dash worked with leading corporate organizations such as Infosys, CitiusTech, and HCL Infosystems. His corporate experience, combined with his deep understanding of Indian knowledge traditions, allows him to uniquely bridge ancient wisdom with modern organizational and educational challenges. Today, he serves as the Deputy Director at the Centre for Indian Knowledge System at Sri Sri University, where he continues to contribute significantly toward reviving and mainstreaming India’s intellectual heritage.

Transforming Education Through Storytelling

What makes Dr. Dash truly exceptional is his innovative use of Panchatantra stories as pedagogical and management tools. Rather than treating ancient texts merely as historical literature, he interprets them as practical guides for self-development, leadership, communication, creativity, and organizational behavior. Over the years, he has conducted more than 350 seminars, workshops, faculty development programs, and training sessions across sectors such as healthcare, education, steel and mining, automobiles, and paramilitary organizations. His sessions are known for their engaging storytelling approach that blends traditional wisdom with modern management principles. Recognizing his expertise, the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Division under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, appointed him as a Master Trainer for training university-level educators on Nitishastra and Storytelling Pedagogy. He is also a trainer under the prestigious Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP) supported by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Dr. Dash has conducted faculty development and training programs for several renowned universities and institutions across India, including Osmania University, Gauhati University, North-Eastern Hill University, Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, and Ranchi University. His contribution to curriculum and policy development is equally noteworthy. He currently serves as the Course Coordinator for the IKS thematic program on Nitishastra and Arthashastra and is also a member of the UGC panel responsible for developing a new Political Science syllabus.

A Teacher, Mentor and Visionary

Beyond his academic and professional accomplishments, Dr. Bharat Dash is deeply admired as a teacher and mentor. Throughout his career, he has taught diverse subjects including Design Thinking, Innovation and Creativity Management, Business Communication, and Nitishastra through Panchatantra. He was also an empanelled faculty member for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where he delivered specialized Design Thinking programs for engineering graduates. Adding another dimension to his personality, Dr. Dash is also a certified Yoga Instructor accredited by the Yoga Certification Board, Government of India, as well as Yoga Alliance, USA. His holistic approach toward education reflects a rare integration of intellectual, emotional, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of learning. Through his initiative “Katha Pratha,” he aims to take the teachings of Panchatantra and other Indian classics to the masses. His vision is simple yet profound—to help people become better teachers, professionals, leaders, and responsible citizens through the transformative power of stories.

A Proud Moment for Sri Sri University

Dr. Bharat Dash’s TEDx recognition is not just an individual achievement; it is also a proud milestone for Sri Sri University and its mission of promoting Indian Knowledge Systems on global platforms. Sri Sri University has consistently worked toward integrating ancient Indian wisdom with contemporary education, innovation, and research. Dr. Dash’s TEDx appearance perfectly embodies this vision by showcasing how traditional Indian knowledge can provide meaningful solutions and perspectives in today’s rapidly evolving world. His talk also serves as a reminder that India’s intellectual traditions are not relics of the past but living systems of knowledge capable of inspiring modern leadership, communication, education, and social transformation.

Inspiring a New Generation

At a time when the world is increasingly searching for meaningful, value-driven approaches to leadership and learning, voices like Dr. Bharat Dash stand out as powerful torchbearers of India’s timeless wisdom traditions.
