SSUIMUN 9.0: A Transformative Journey of Diplomacy, Leadership and Global Dialogue
SSUIMUN 9.0, a dynamic three-day International Model United Nations conference was proudly hosted by Sri Sri University bringing together over 150 passionate delegates from diverse academic institutions. Built around the compelling theme 'The Phoenix Revival,' the conference symbolized resilience, rebirth and the power of youth to rise, rebuild and redefine the future through meaningful global dialogue.
From the very outset, the atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity, as young minds stepped into the roles of diplomats, policymakers and global leaders. The event served as a powerful platform not only for academic engagement but also for personal growth, leadership development and cross-cultural exchange.
The conference journey commenced on March 19th with the vibrant and culturally rich Diplomats’ Carnival, beautifully integrated with Ugadi celebrations. The evening unfolded with a ceremonial parade of the organizing committee, setting a tone of pride and unity, followed by the spiritually uplifting Guru Pooja conducted by Director Operations Swami Satyachaitanya Ji.
A symbolic torch lighting ceremony added a sense of purpose and inspiration, marking the beginning of a transformative experience. The presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tejpartap and Chief Guest Lt. General Narayan Mohanty (PVSM, AVSM, VSM Retd.), elevated the occasion. Their insightful addresses emphasized the values of discipline, leadership, national service and the importance of youth participation in shaping the future.
The evening seamlessly blended intellect with culture through mesmerizing performances, including classical dance, musical renditions and a lively ramp walk, leaving delegates energized and eager for the days ahead.
March 20th marked the formal inauguration of SSUIMUN 9.0 with a grand opening ceremony that highlighted the significance of international cooperation, critical thinking, and active youth engagement in addressing global challenges. Delegates, dressed in elegant Indian formals, gathered with a sense of purpose and anticipation.
A comprehensive Rules of Procedure (ROP) training session followed, equipping participants with the technical knowledge and confidence required to navigate the complexities of MUN debates. This session proved instrumental in setting a strong foundation for effective participation. The subsequent committee sessions witnessed intense deliberations on pressing global issues, ranging from international security to diplomatic cooperation.
Participants showcased remarkable research, articulation and strategic thinking, engaging in formal debates, moderated caucuses and policy discussions. The seamless organization and academic depth of the conference were ensured under the leadership of Dean of Student Welfare Prof (Dr.) Jay Prakash Bhatt with invaluable guidance from Faculty Mentor Sk Jishan Akhtar and Faculty Advisor Rupal Shah, whose mentorship played a crucial role in shaping the delegates’ experience.
As the conference progressed into its second day on March 21st, the intensity and engagement reached new heights. Delegates delved deeper into complex global agendas, including sustainable development, geopolitical conflicts and international collaboration. The committee rooms became arenas of dynamic exchange, where ideas were challenged, alliances were formed and solutions were crafted.
Through unmoderated caucuses and collaborative drafting sessions, participants honed essential skills such as negotiation, persuasion, teamwork and crisis management. The spirit of diplomacy was evident in the way delegates navigated differing perspectives while striving for consensus-driven solutions.
Despite the demanding schedule, the conference ensured a balance between intellectual rigor and cultural engagement. The much-awaited Star Night provided a refreshing break, allowing delegates to unwind and celebrate through music, performances and social interaction. This segment not only added vibrancy to the event but also fostered meaningful connections and friendships among participants from diverse backgrounds.
The final day, March 22nd, marked the culmination of this enriching journey. The concluding committee sessions were characterized by high-stakes debates, refined arguments and decisive voting procedures. Delegates presented well-structured resolutions, reflecting days of research, collaboration and strategic negotiation. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation as participants prepared for the closing ceremony.
The valedictory ceremony, graced by Chief Guest Omm Priyadarshi Chhotaray, Member of the Advisory Council, MoYAS, Government of India and India’s Representative to G20, BRICS, UNESCO, Commonwealth and CoP28, served as a moment of reflection and inspiration. His address underscored the critical role of youth in global policymaking and encouraged delegates to actively contribute to international discourse.
The conference concluded with the recognition of outstanding delegates who demonstrated exceptional skills in diplomacy, public speaking, research and leadership. Awards such as Best Delegate, Best Speaker and special committee recognitions celebrated excellence and dedication, while also motivating participants to continue their journey of learning and growth. The applause and smiles along with shared memories during the valedictory ceremony reflected the profound impact the conference had on everyone involved.
SSUIMUN 9.0 proved to be far more than just an academic simulation.
