From Adversity to Achievement: The Journey of SSU Harbingers

“Sometimes the strongest people are the ones who face the greatest adversity and still choose to rise.”

At Sri Sri University (SSU), this belief takes shape in the form of the ‘Yoga Krishna’ Scholarship Scheme, a powerful initiative designed to break the shackles of financial hardship and empower meritorious students to follow their dreams. In the academic year 2024–25, SSU extended scholarships to over 700 students, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive and accessible education.

This initiative, driven by the Scholarship Support Division under the leadership of Dr. Mrutyunjay Dash (Director), Dr. Jasmine Bhuyan (Nodal Officer), and Ms. Anita Singh (Executive Assistant), goes beyond numbers. It is about transforming lives. It is about ensuring that no student is left behind simply because they cannot afford to step forward.

A Journey from the Margins to the Mainstream

Jayanti Maharjan - Following the Voice Within

Jayanti Maharjan

Hailing from Bagmati State, Nepal, Jayanti Maharjan defied societal and familial expectations to pursue her passion for yoga. While her parents wished she’d take up engineering, Jayanti’s heart lay in yogic sciences. Adjusting to a new country, culture, and language wasn't easy—but SSU became her home and her launchpad. The ₹1,12,000 Yoga Krishna scholarship in her second year of MSc. enabled her to focus entirely on academics and personal growth without the burden of finances.

Rehanso Boo – Rising from the Hills of Arunachal

Rehanso Boo

From the serene valleys of Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh, Rehanso Boo carries with him both strength and solitude—his mother, a single parent farmer, is his only family. As one of the first students of BPT (Physiotherapy) at SSU, Rehanso faced severe financial pressure. The ₹50,000 scholarship helped him not only stay in school but thrive through participation in clubs, peer support groups, and leadership opportunities.

Sai Vyshnavi Peddoju – Farming Dreams into Reality

Sai Vyshnavi

In the agricultural heartland of Telangana, Sai Vyshnavi dreamt of learning modern agriculture techniques to uplift her farming community. But her father, a blacksmith with an annual income of ₹1.6 lakh, could barely manage her education expenses. The ₹56,000 scholarship lightened this heavy load and allowed her to continue her BSc (Hons) in Agriculture at SSU without interruption.

Sandhra V - A Promise Fulfilled

Sandhra V

From the Faculty of Management Studies, Sandhra V (2022–24 batch) expressed heartfelt gratitude upon receiving a ₹75,000 scholarship. It covered her tuition fees and allowed her to focus on her studies, fulfilling her family’s dream of higher education.

Nida Raj - Engineering a Brighter Future

Nida Raj

A tech-savvy student from Cuttack, Nida Raj faced health challenges and transportation constraints while pursuing her B.Tech in Cyber Security. With the help of a ₹65,000 scholarship, she managed to afford a laptop and reliable transport to continue her studies safely and effectively.

Gudula Ekka – Building Dreams in Architecture

Gudula Ekka

From Sundargarh, Odisha, Gudula Ekka enrolled in the B.Arch program at SSU. After her father’s retirement, finances were tight in her family. The ₹72,000 post-matric scholarship covered 30% of her annual academic expenses, stabilizing their financial situation and helping Gudula pursue her passion.

Mitali Hrudananda Sethy – Integrating Healing with Education

In the Faculty of Integrated Medicine, Mitali Sethy, an SC/ST student, received ₹47,000 under the post-matric scholarship scheme. This timely support was instrumental in her continuing the BAMS program and preparing to serve communities in need of holistic healthcare.

Aditya Narayan Panda – Coding Through Crisis

A bright student of AI & ML from Kendrapara, Aditya Narayan faced an economic downturn after his family’s textile business shut down during the pandemic. His ₹50,000 Udaan scholarship helped offset his tuition and daily expenses. Today, placed at Incedo, he credits both financial aid and personal mentorship from SSU for his success.

Jayprakash Dalai - Cultivating Hope

Jayprakash, pursuing BSc Agriculture, received a ₹43,500 stipend through the government’s post-matric scholarship program and SSU’s Yoga Krishna initiative. This support gave his family new hope and affirmed his decision to contribute back to his community through sustainable agriculture.

Payal Bal - A Song of Strength

Payal Bal

From the cultural town of Dhenkanal, Payal Bal, a student of Hindustani Vocal Music, struggled after her father—an ex-army man—underwent major surgery. With a ₹84,775 scholarship, Payal’s family could breathe easier. Her siblings resumed their education, and she continued singing not just for herself, but for all those who believe in second chances.

More Than Just Financial Support

What makes the ‘Yoga Krishna’ scholarship scheme stand out is not just the funding—it’s the empowerment. It’s the one-on-one mentorship, the guidance in soft skills, the access to career-building clubs and leadership training. These students are no longer just recipients, they are harbingers of change.

Their stories reflect the deep impact of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) in action- where access, inclusion and empowerment come together to shape futures.

SSU: A Beacon of Hope and Opportunity

In the face of adversity, these students have found resilience. In the face of poverty, they have discovered purpose. And in Sri Sri University, they have found a home that nurtures dreams, respects individuality, and invests in the collective future of society.

From the classroom to careers, from struggle to strength- this is the journey of the SSU harbingers. And their journey has just begun.
